TETLEY ANGLING FOR ‘PEACEFUL FISHING’
“we are a Private Members water only‘
Tetley Angling or as the water is now know ‘Silverbirch Fisheries’ dates back more than 60 years, with our water size being approx 1 1/4 acres, and carp running into the 20lb+ range.
The original water was an old mill pond of unknown age, but needless to say it was very very old and back then already contained some remarkable fish.
The water was then developed by Tetley Walkers Brewery in Warrington for it’s own staff to exclusively fish.
The water was stocked by the brewery with many different species of fish, coarse and the highest quality carp available all those years ago, resulting in some of the most quality specimen carp around.
‘Time Moves on but the ethos stays the same’
Since the brewery closed, the water has now opened it’s doors to the public for a very limited number of memberships, of which this is kept to a minimum, keeping true to the original idea of escapism and tranquillity on the banks.
The water is fully stocked and catching fish here is no myth, species include Grass carp, Koi Carp, Mirror Carp- fully scaled Carp /linear, Common, leather, Ghost, Tench, bream, Perch and the usual, we have never had to quote weights, we’ll leave that to you!
Not just a carp water
In fact the water was predominately fished as a coarse water, as all those years ago the carp did prove elusive to the average angler. Tales and stories of big fish in the water circulated among staff, but no one could ever catch one of beautiful carp that lurked beneath the depths.
In fact it was only at the turn of the century that things changed on the water, with anglers now taking more of an interest in the carp side of fishing. Old staff members who brought there sons all those years ago, where now being taught by there now older siblings about the new fishing technology available to help catch the tricky and hard to catch carp.
Whether fishing on float, pole or ledger we have plenty to offer. We have a great stock of Tench – Golden & Green, Bream, Roach, Rudd, Barbel, Chub, Perch and golden orfs.
Fishing here is a very relaxed affair, a quite tranquil place to escape the turmoil of modern life, and that’s the way we like it, as it should be!
